On its way from Bruck/Mur down to
Graz the river has more falls than the
Danube has on its very last 1,000 km.
This piece of information is not really
essential, but it will serve as a nice
feature in your small talk on the Island.
4 universities
2 universities of applied sciences
1 Island
(all a city needs)
Architectural milestones,
American coffee shops,
art galleries and stylish offices -
the left bank of the river Mur is
on the upward move. And the
Island is right in the middle.
Yet the water still flows by just
as fast on both sides of the Island.

By the way:
You needn’t be born in Graz to
fall for this charming city!
(as is true for the following
people:)
1,900 hours of sunshine – this is
the average amount of sunshine
in Graz every year. So during your
stay on the Island you might get
the chance to enjoy some of it

The left bank of the river Mur was
formerly known as »the other side«
the part of Graz that was »rarely visited.«
At its furthermost end, there is Eggenberg Castle,
and the train station lies half way between the castle
and the Island. Annenstrasse, the only street
in Europe where even betting cafés
have to close down, connects this part of
Graz with the city centre.
Do you know the clichè: that Graz is different?
It’s true. And one thing is for sure: Even the
clocks run differently here. On the Clock Tower -
a landmark of the city dating back to the
time before Graz had its Island, and of course
still a landmark today – the minute
hand is smaller than the hour hand.
This can be seen clearly from the Island
